Performing Arts

Drama, Music and Dance

There are both fun and profound reasons for children to get involved in the Performing Arts, which is why music, dance and drama at ½ÖÅĸ£ÀûÊÓƵ are part of everyday life from Prep up until Year 9. In the Senior years, students can choose specialised music and drama electives, including VCE Theatre Studies, Drama and Music.

Right through the school journey, a fantastic array of music and drama opportunities help to support the differing skills and strengths that are within every student.

As a thriving part of the school’s curricular and co-curricular programs, over time, music, drama and dance have helped the school develop a rich and enduring culture in the Performing Arts.

The Girton Grammar Performing Arts Program aims to provide students with a sense of confidence and an avenue for creative expression, as well as an improved understanding of discipline and teamwork.

Drama Productions

Junior School Production is a full scale musical which involves all students in Years 2, 4 and 6.

Senior School Production is open to all interested students from Years 7 to 12. The production caters for students with a range of talents and skills and alternates each year from a full scale musical production to a straight Drama performance.

Year 8 Production is a unique feature of the Year 8 Drama curriculum. Each and every student in this Year level is involved in a massive stage spectacular! This is a semester long project which
requires students to explore acting, singing and dancing
and also learn the technical skills required to stage the show.

One Act Play Festival is an opportunity for students to create and perform a short play which is entirely student directed and can involve casts of students from a variety of Year levels. You can view or download a copy of the 2024 One Act Play Festival Programme here:

‘Backstage’, ‘Stage Make-up‘ and ‘Theatre Technicians’ provides students with the opportunity to be taught production skills and these students are then responsible for the technical aspects of school productions and assemblies.

Dance is open to students from Preparatory to 12 offering Classical Ballet (Royal Academy of Dance syllabus), Tap, Jazz and Contemporary.
